Hi everyone,
I am in the process of researching dog breeds as I am looking to bring home a new furry friend. I have stumbled upon the Doberman Pinscher breed and have been reading up on their characteristics and traits. However, I am a little confused about whether or not they are considered sighthounds.
I have always been fascinated by sighthounds and their incredible speed and agility. I know that they are a type of dog bred specifically for hunting by sight, using their keen eyesight to spot prey from great distances. However, I am not sure if the Doberman Pinscher falls into this category.
Can anyone confirm whether or not Doberman Pinschers are sighthounds? If not, what category do they fall under? I am eager to learn more about this breed and any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I want to add my two cents to this discussion as someone who has worked with both Doberman Pinschers and sighthounds in a professional capacity.
In my opinion, Dobermans are not considered sighthounds. As most of the previous posters have mentioned, sighthounds have a unique body shape and build that allows them to excel in hunting prey by sight.
While Dobermans have remarkable vision, their primary role as a breed is not to hunt prey, but rather to guard and protect their owners. As such, their build is more muscular and hefty, not as long and slender as sighthounds.
That said, Dobermans are still incredibly athletic and intelligent dogs that can be trained to excel in a variety of activities, including agility, obedience, and tracking. They have a strong work ethic and are eager to please their owners, making them a great choice for many families.
I hope this information helps clear up any confusion and provides additional information about the Doberman Pinscher breed.
