Hi everyone,
I am considering getting a Doberman puppy as a family pet, but I am concerned about their trainability. I have heard that they can be stubborn and difficult to train, which makes me worry about my ability to properly train and socialize the dog. I have had some experience with dog training in the past, but never with a Doberman specifically.
So, for those of you who have owned or worked with Dobermans before, how easy or difficult were they to train? Did you encounter any specific challenges or behaviors that were particularly hard to address? Any tips or advice for training a Doberman would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi y'all,
I've trained four Dobermans over the past 15 years, and I must say that they've all been quite different in terms of their trainability, personality traits, and behaviour.
Generally, Dobermans are very intelligent dogs who love to work and learn new things. They thrive on praise and positive reinforcement, so it's best to steer clear of harsh discipline methods.
However, I've had one Doberman in the past who was a tad difficult to train, he just didn't seem to enjoy it as much as my other dogs. He would get distracted quickly, and could be quite stubborn. It was a little frustrating at first, but once we found the right motivators for him - whether it was through food, toys, or playtime - he responded really well.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to the individual dog and their temperament. While some Dobermans may take to training naturally and learn commands quickly, others may need more time, patience, and a tailored approach.
So my advice would be to do your research on training techniques, be consistent, and most importantly, be flexible in the methods you use. If you're willing to put in the effort and work with your Doberman, I believe you can train them to be amazing pets and companions.
