Hi everyone,
I am considering getting a Doberman as a family dog, but I have some concerns about their temperament and behavior. I have a family with young children, so safety is my top priority. I have heard mixed reviews about Dobermans - some say they are great family dogs and very loyal, while others say they can be aggressive and difficult to train.
I am also worried about their size and energy levels. We live in an apartment, so I am not sure if a Doberman would be happy or comfortable in that environment. However, I am also very active and enjoy taking my dogs on long walks and hikes.
I would appreciate any input from Doberman owners or experts on whether or not they think this breed would be a good fit for us as a family dog. Thank you!

Hello,
I have owned several Dobermans over the years and I can definitely say that they make great family dogs. They are highly intelligent and need plenty of mental stimulation, which makes them easy to train. They are also very loyal and protective of their families, which is great for those who place a high value on safety.
That being said, it's important to note that Dobermans are a high-energy breed and require a lot of exercise. They aren't well-suited to living in an apartment or confined space. They need plenty of room to run around and play, so a house with a large yard would be ideal.
In terms of temperament, Dobermans can be quite stubborn and independent-minded. They need a firm but fair hand when it comes to training, and socialization with other dogs and people is essential to prevent aggressive behavior.
Overall, I think Dobermans can make great family dogs as long as the owners are willing to put in the effort to properly train and exercise them. They are loyal, intelligent, and protective dogs that will bring joy and companionship to any family.
