Hello fellow Doberman owners,
I recently adopted a Doberman and while he seems healthy, I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to keep him healthy. I heard that some dog breeds have specific health concerns and I want to make sure I am being proactive in addressing any potential issues with my Doberman.
So my question is, are there any specific health tests that should be done on a Doberman? I want to make sure I am taking care of my dog to the best of my ability and any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,
I've had Dobermans for years and they are incredible dogs. As for health tests, I think it's worth mentioning that ocular exams are important for the breed as well. Dobermans can be prone to eye diseases such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy, which can lead to blindness if left untreated.
It's also a good idea to get your dog's ears checked regularly, as Dobermans can be susceptible to ear infections. Part of this includes keeping their ears clean and dry, so make sure to dry them thoroughly after they get wet.
Lastly, I would recommend getting routine blood work done to check for any abnormalities, such as liver or kidney disease. Catching these issues early on can make a big difference in the outcome.
As always, it's important to talk to your vet about any concerns you may have and to keep up with your dog's regular check-ups. Best of luck with your Doberman!
