Q:

Can a doberman pinscher live with a miniature dachshund?

Hey friends,

I'm considering getting a Doberman Pinscher as my next pet, but I already have a Miniature Dachshund at home. I'm a bit worried if the two breeds can live together and get along well.

My doxie is a little shy, but gets along well with other dogs as long as they're not too rough with her. On the other hand, I've read that Dobermans can have a high prey drive and may not be gentle with smaller dogs like dachshunds.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone has personal experience or advice on whether these two breeds can coexist peacefully. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I have personal experience owning both a Doberman Pinscher and a miniature dachshund, but unfortunately, they did not get along. Despite my best efforts to introduce and socialize them, my Doberman had a high prey drive and would constantly try to play rough with the dachshund, which made it difficult for them to coexist.

I believe it really does depend on the individual dogs' personalities and traits, and it's important to remember that Dobermans were originally bred as guard dogs and hunters. Some may have a high prey drive or aggression towards smaller dogs, while others may not.

If you're considering getting a Doberman and you already have a miniature dachshund, I would recommend consulting with a professional dog trainer or behaviorist to help you assess the potential for a positive relationship between the two breeds. It's better to be safe than sorry and ensure that both dogs are happy and safe in the same household.

Just my two cents, hope this helps!

Hey there,

I have a Doberman Pinscher and a miniature dachshund living together and they get along great! The Doberman is a little younger and bigger than the dachshund, but they enjoy each other's company and often play for hours on end.

From my experience, I think this breed combination can work well together as long as they are introduced correctly and with supervised interactions until they are comfortable with each other. Training is also important as Dobermans can be energetic and playful, so it's important to train them to be gentle with smaller dogs like dachshunds.

Overall, if you do plan on getting a Doberman and already have a miniature dachshund, just make sure to introduce them slowly and supervise their interactions until they are comfortable being around each other. Proper training will also be beneficial to ensure a positive relationship between the two dogs.

Hi there,

I have personal experience with Dobermans and miniature dachshunds living together. I had a Doberman and my sister had a miniature dachshund, and they were able to coexist peacefully. However, it does depend on the individual temperament of each dog.

My Doberman was a big goofball and didn't seem to have a high prey drive. He would play gently with the dachshund and was always careful not to accidentally hurt her. However, I have heard of other Dobermans that may not have the same gentle temperament, so it really depends on the individual.

If you do decide to get a Doberman, I would recommend introducing the two dogs slowly and under supervision. Make sure you have plenty of space for both dogs to have their own separate areas if needed. And of course, always monitor their interactions to ensure they are getting along well.

In summary, it's possible for a Doberman and miniature dachshund to live together peacefully, but it does depend on the individual dogs' personalities.

Hey there,

I have owned both Doberman Pinschers and miniature dachshunds and have found that they can live together peacefully with a little bit of effort. When I first introduced my Doberman to my dachshund, I made sure to supervise their interactions and keep them on leashes until I was confident that they were comfortable around each other.

Training is also crucial with any dog, but especially with a large, energetic breed like the Doberman. I made sure to take my Doberman to obedience classes and socialization classes to ensure that she was well-behaved and gentle around smaller dogs like dachshunds.

In my experience, a happy and peaceful co-existence between a Doberman and a dachshund really comes down to individual temperament and early socialization. Each dog is unique and may have different behaviors and reactions to other dogs, so it's important to assess their personalities and work with them accordingly.

Overall, I believe that with proper introductions and training, a Doberman and miniature dachshund can definitely live together happily.
