Q:

Do Dobermans attack their owners?

Hey everyone,

I am considering getting a Doberman as a pet, but I have heard conflicting information about their behavior. Some people have told me that Dobermans can become aggressive towards their owners and even attack them. This has made me hesitant about bringing one into my home.

I want to know if there is any truth to this. Have any of you had experience with Dobermans being aggressive towards their owners? Or is this just a misconception about the breed?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello all,

I used to own a Doberman, and while she was a great dog, she did show some aggressive behavior towards me and my family. It was not something that we expected to see, as we had done everything we could to socialize and train her.

We tried to work with her by using positive reinforcement techniques and seeking out the advice of professional trainers, but unfortunately, her aggression persisted. It got to a point where we felt it was too dangerous to keep her, and we had to make the difficult decision to rehome her.

While I do not think that all Dobermans are inherently aggressive, my experience has made me very cautious about adopting another one in the future. It is a sad reality that sometimes, despite our best efforts, certain dogs may have unique temperaments or personality traits that we simply cannot change.

I think it is important for anyone considering adopting a Doberman or any breed of dog to understand the potential risks and to be willing to take the necessary steps to train and socialize their pet. However, it is also important to accept that sometimes, even with the best intentions, things may not turn out as planned.

Hi everyone,

I don't have personal experience with owning a Doberman, but I work as a veterinary technician and I have seen a lot of different breeds come through our clinic. From my experience, it really depends on the individual dog and its upbringing.

I have seen some Dobermans who are incredibly sweet and gentle, and others who are more aloof and reserved. However, I have never seen one who was naturally aggressive towards their owners or other people.

That being said, any dog can become aggressive if it is not trained or socialized properly. This is especially true for breeds that are known for their protective instincts, like Dobermans.

So, if you are considering getting a Doberman or any dog breed for that matter, make sure that you do your research and understand the breed's unique traits and needs. Also, make sure that you invest time and effort into proper training and socialization to ensure that your dog is a happy, healthy, and well-behaved member of your family.

Hello all,

I have owned Dobermans for over 20 years now and I can say that they are absolutely wonderful dogs. While every dog has its own personality, Dobermans are not naturally aggressive towards their owners.

Of course, proper training and socialization play a key role in a dog's behavior. I have found that Dobies are highly trainable and love to please their owners. They are also typically very affectionate towards their families and bond closely with them.

However, it is important to note that if a Doberman is mistreated or not trained properly, it can display aggressive behavior. This is true for any breed of dog.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Doberman as a family pet. They are loving, loyal, and protective dogs that make wonderful companions. Just be sure to do your research, find a reputable breeder or rescue organization, and provide your dog with consistent training and socialization to ensure a happy and healthy relationship.

Hello everyone,

I have a neighbor who owns a Doberman and from my personal experience, I can say that this breed of dog is highly trainable and obedient. This particular Doberman is very well-behaved and has never shown any behavior that could be construed as aggressive towards their owners or other people.

In fact, the dog is highly social and seems to enjoy being around people. They are always wagging their tail and looking for attention from anyone who is willing to give it to them.

Based on my observations, proper socialization and training play a crucial role in the behavior of this breed. It is important to train them at a young age and to expose them to different people and situations in order to build their confidence and prevent any aggressive tendencies.

Overall, I think that Dobermans can make great family pets as long as they are properly trained and socialized. They are highly intelligent, loyal, and affectionate dogs that have a great reputation for being great protectors of their families.

Hello everyone,

I grew up with a Doberman and she was the sweetest and most loyal dog you would ever meet. She was very obedient and never once showed any aggressive behavior towards me, my family or other people.

From my personal experience, I think that Dobermans have developed a negative reputation for being aggressive because some irresponsible breeders have attempted to breed them for fighting or as a guard dog without much emphasis on obedience training or socialization. Moreover, some individuals who get a Doberman may not have the experience or knowledge necessary to train or socialize them properly, leading to aggression or other behavioral issues.

However, with proper training and socialization, Dobermans can make excellent family pets. They are highly trainable, intelligent and protective dogs that will do anything to keep their family safe.

Overall, I would say that Dobermans are not inherently more aggressive than any other breed. It's all about the individual dog and how they were raised and trained since they were puppies. If you're thinking of getting a Doberman, make sure to do your research carefully, choose a reputable breeder, invest time and effort into their training and socialization, and make sure you have the experience and knowledge necessary to raise a large, powerful breed with high energy levels.

Hello everyone,

I have had the pleasure of owning a Doberman for several years now, and I can say that the breed has been wonderful to my family and me. My Doberman is very loving and affectionate, and she has never shown any signs of aggression towards any member of my family.

While aggressive behavior in Dobermans may be a concern for some, it is important to remember that proper training and socialization are key to mitigating any potential risks. If you are considering getting a Doberman or any breed, make sure to do your research and find a reputable breeder. Also, invest time in training and socializing your dog from a young age.

That being said, it is important to remember that every dog is unique and may have its own personality or temperament. Even with the best training and socializing, there may be times when a dog exhibits negative behavior. It is important to be vigilant and seek help from a professional if you notice any concerning behavior in your dog.

Overall, I think that Dobermans can make great pets for the right family. They are loyal, intelligent, and protective dogs, but they do require proper training and socialization to thrive. If you are willing to make the effort, a Doberman can be an excellent addition to your family.

Hey there,

I actually have a Doberman and I can tell you from personal experience that they are not typically aggressive towards their owners. My Dobie is incredibly loyal and affectionate towards me and my family.

Like any breed, it is important to socialize and train them properly from a young age. If a Doberman is not socialized or trained properly, they may exhibit aggressive behavior towards anyone, including their owners.

It is also important to note that every dog is different and may have a unique personality and temperament. While my Doberman is docile and obedient, another Doberman may have a different personality and may require more training and attention.

Overall, I would not let the misconception of Dobermans attacking their owners deter you from getting one as a pet. Just be sure to do your research, find a reputable breeder, and properly socialize and train your dog to ensure a happy and healthy relationship with your pet.

Hello everyone,

I used to own a Doberman and I can say that every dog has a distinct personality. However, I must also admit that my Doberman did show some signs of aggression. He was a rescue, so it was not possible to determine how he was originally socialized or trained.

We did our best to provide a loving home and to train him, but his aggression persisted. He was very protective of me and our family, which was great initially. But as he grew older, his behavior escalated to the point where he would attack visitors, even when they had been introduced to him before.

Eventually, it became impossible to manage him, and we had to make the difficult decision to put him down. I know that this is a heartbreaking and extreme measure, but unfortunately, it was the only option we had at the time.

I understand that this is a difficult and controversial topic. I always recommend researching the personality traits of any dog breed you are interested in, as well as adopting from reputable breeders or rescue organizations. It is also important to train the dog properly and to socialize them with other people and animals. However, please keep in mind that sometimes, despite our best efforts, some dogs may exhibit aggressive behavior that may not be easily corrected.

Thank you for reading my story, and I hope it will help someone who is considering getting a Doberman as a pet.
