Hi everyone, I am considering getting a Doberman as a family pet and have been doing some research about their temperament around children. I have two young children, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, and wanted to know if Dobermans do well with children. I know that Dobermans are highly intelligent and loyal dogs, but I am concerned about their reputation for being aggressive or protective. Have any of you had experience with Dobermans and children? Are they gentle and patient with kids, or should I reconsider this breed? Thank you for any input you can provide.

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my experience in owning a Doberman with children. My family got a Doberman puppy when our children were aged 6 and 9, and over the years he has been an incredible addition to our family.
Our Doberman has always been very gentle with our children, and is very patient when they play together. We made sure to socialize him with children when he was a puppy, and also trained him to understand when it is appropriate to be protective and when it's not.
One thing to note is that Dobermans can be very active and they require a lot of exercise. We found that incorporating our children in his daily exercise routine (such as taking him for walks and playing with him in the backyard) has allowed him to form a bond with them and it's great for our whole family's overall health.
In my opinion, Dobermans can make excellent family pets with children when they received proper training, socialization, and exercise. However, I believe it's important to always supervise interactions between your dog and your children no matter what their breed is, to ensure everyone stays safe and happy.
Overall, our Doberman has been a wonderful addition to our family and I would highly recommend the breed to anyone considering adding a pet to their family.
