Hi everyone,
I am a single female and considering getting another dog as a companion for my current dog. I am interested in getting either a Doberman or an Akita, but I'm not sure which breed would be a better fit for my situation.
My current dog is a female German Shepherd who is well-trained and gets along with other dogs. However, she is not particularly playful and tends to be more reserved.
I am looking for a breed that is affectionate, loyal, and protective. I want a dog that can be trained easily and will get along well with my current dog as well as any future pets I may get.
I have a fairly active lifestyle and would be able to provide plenty of exercise for the dog, including regular walks and trips to the dog park.
So, based on my situation, do you think a Doberman or an Akita would be a better choice? I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with either of these breeds. Thank you in advance for your advice!

As a single female dog owner, I have experience with both Dobermans and Akitas as companions for another dog. Based on my experience, I would recommend an Akita for someone looking for a loyal and protective companion.
Akitas are known for their devotion to their family and make excellent guard dogs. My Akita was always by my side and had a protective nature which made me feel safe as a single female. They are also very social dogs and get along well with other pets and strangers if they have been socialized from a young age.
Training an Akita can be a challenge due to their stubborn nature, but they are intelligent and respond well to positive reinforcement. In terms of exercise, Akitas require regular walks and outdoor playtime to release their energy.
It is important to note that Akitas do have a prey drive, and while my dog got along with my other pets, that is not the case with all Akitas. Therefore, special attention should be paid during introductions to ensure their behavior is appropriate.
Overall, owning an Akita as a single female with another dog has been a wonderful experience for me. They are loyal, protective, and loving dogs that thrive in a social environment with regular exercise and proper training.
