Is it true that Dobermans make loyal and loving companions?

I just wanted to provide my personal experience with my Doberman as it's quite different from what I've read so far. Unfortunately, my Doberman did not make a very loyal or loving companion. He was prone to aggression, especially with strangers, and never seemed to warm up to me or my family. We tried everything we could think of -- training, socialization, exercise -- but he remained aloof and distant. Additionally, he had a number of health problems that required frequent trips to the vet and a lot of money to treat. While I know that Dobermans can make great pets for some people, I would caution anyone considering this breed to thoroughly vet any potential breeder or adoption agency and be aware of the risks involved.
