Hello everyone,
I'm a new dog owner and I recently got a Doberman puppy. I'm very excited to have her as a new member of our family, but I'm also a bit nervous about training her properly. I understand that Dobermans are a breed that needs a lot of training and attention. Therefore, I'm looking for advice on what kind of training is required for a Doberman.
I want my puppy to be well-behaved and obedient, but I also want her to enjoy her life with us. What sort of training should I be considering? What are the skills that I need to teach her? How long does it normally take to train a Doberman?
Any advice or experience shared would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello there,
I have a 9-month-old Doberman, and just like all the other users who have shared their insights here, I have learned that Dobermans require proper training. When it comes to training a Doberman, two crucial factors stand out - consistency and praise.
Dobermans are intuitive and can easily pick up on training patterns, and this is where consistency comes in. Dedicate time daily to reinforce previously taught training commands and teach new ones. Consistency also involves getting everyone in your household in line with your training methods to ensure everyone is on the same page.
Praise is another essential aspect when training your Doberman. Dobermans tend to be people pleasers, so praise reinforces their desire to do the right thing, and it makes the training process enjoyable for them. Praising your dog for a job well done gives them positive emotions, making it more likely for them to repeat their behavior.
In my experience, Dobermans are intelligent dogs that need a lot of exercise, and as such, having a well-exercised dog ensures they are more attentive during training sessions. Taking your Doberman for a walk or jog builds a strong bond and opens communication lines between you and your dog. When walking your dog, especially in public places, use it as an opportunity to train your Doberman in obedience, self-control, and socialization.
In summary, to train a Doberman, consistency, praise, exercise, and self-control training are crucial. Do not forget to have fun while training your Doberman, and always avoid using physical punishment, as it can reinforce bad behavior. With patience and the right mindset, your Doberman can become an intelligent and well-behaved dog that will give you years of love and enjoyment.
